St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
We at Tri Delta believe, like St. Jude's founder Danny Thomas, that "no child should die in the dawn of life." This is the reason that members of our sorority nationwide have sought to raise money to make a difference in the lives of children from all over the world. In order to raise money for this wonderful organization, we hold two major fundraising events every academic year, Game Day and Sincerely Yours.
Game Day is a tailgate-themed event which is held on a Saturday afternoon during an away football game. Our guests receive free food, desserts, a koozie and are also able to participate in a silent auction with great products and gift certificates from local businesses in Columbia. Our local St. Jude family attends this event every year so they are able to express their appreciation for our work as well as share their story with all of the attendants. We absolutely love coming together to share our passion for St. Jude and celebrate our amazing philanthropic cause while cheering on the Gamecocks!
Secondly, Sincerely Yours is our letter writing campaign in which all chapters of Tri Delta across the nation participate. For Sincerely Yours, our members address envelopes and send letters to family and friends describing our bond with St. Jude and asking them to share our passion. This campaign simply asks for them to join us in giving hope to families across the country by making a donation to the hospital. At Alpha Lambda, our members gather at our house to address their letters, eat pizza and hang out with sisters on a Sunday evening. It is an opportunity for our members to share their passion in a more relaxed environment.
With the help of some of our amazing philanthropy chairs, we've recently added even more fundraising events. Triple Play is a softball tournament in the spring where other on-campus organizations can donate to St. Jude to compete to win a bunch of prizes from local businesses. Dunkin' Deltas is a new fall fundraising event on the Friday of USC Parents Weekend where sisters sell doughnuts for $1 outside of the Tri Delta house. Between these events and the addition of percent nights with Columbia businesses such as Rita's Italian Ice, our dedication to St. Jude is only growing as time goes on.
Not only do we raise money for the hospital, but we visit once a year as well. The girls drive all the way to Memphis, Tennessee to visit the hospital and one of the three residential homes for patients on campus, such as the Target House. From road tripping for nine hours with sisters to touring the halls of our hospital, our members are able to develop stronger friendships and see firsthand where their work goes. Our passion for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital continues to grow each and every day!
