St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
We at Tri Delta believe, like St. Jude's founder Danny Thomas, that "no child should die in the dawn of life." This is the reason that members of our sorority nationwide have sought to raise money to make a difference in the lives of children from all over the world. In order to raise money for this wonderful organization, we hold two major fundraising events every academic year, Game Day and Sincerely Yours.
Game Day is a tailgate-themed event which is held on a Saturday afternoon during an away football game. Our guests receive free food, desserts, a koozie, and are also able to participate in a silent auction with great products and gift certificates from local businesses in Columbia. Our local St. Jude family attends this event every year so they are able to share their story with everyone. We absolutely love coming together to share our passion for St. Jude and celebrate our amazing philanthropic cause while cheering on the Gamecocks!
Sincerely Yours is our letter-writing campaign in which all chapters of Tri Delta across the nation participate. For Sincerely Yours, our members address envelopes and send letters to family and friends describing our bond with St. Jude and asking them to share our passion. This campaign simply asks for them to join us in giving hope to families across the country by making a donation to the hospital. At Alpha Lambda, our members gather at our house to address their letters, eat pizza, and hang out with sisters on a Sunday evening. It is an opportunity for our members to share their passion in a more relaxed environment.
This year we had our first Delta Fest philanthropy event, it was a battle of the bands where the winning band won by raising the most money for St. Jude! Our sisters', friends' and families loved coming together for some live music from local musicians, and even some of our sister's bands, while raising money for such an important cause.
Our chapter has stayed continually in the top 10 Tri Delta Chapters Nationally for money raising as well as being 2018 and 2019 top Fundraising Chapters in the UofSC community. We may all have different interests, different reasons for joining Tri Delta, or different goals in life, but one thing is for sure... we ALL love Tri Delta.
Along with our philanthropy events, we have an annual trip to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Every year young women are selected thru an application process in order to go on the trip and get a tour of the hospital to see how much our sorority does first hand. Tri Delta has entire patient care floor and an entire housing facility for short term patients on St. Jude's campus.
Service
Service in our local community and around the world is something we as Tri Deltas strive to keep as a priority in our lives. Here in Columbia, we volunteer at local hospitals, mentor young girls in the community, and work with UofSC to donate food and clothes yearly. Many of our sisters also enjoy spreading our influence abroad and taking International Mission Trips where they volunteer and help the local neighborhoods in many different ways!
